Summer has begun!

Price Chopper had a sale on seedless watermelons this week, so I just HAD to pick one up. Everyone in the house just loves the juicy, sweet, delicious goodness! :) I think watermelon was a perfect way to kick-off summer and enjoy the gorgeous weather we have been having!

Birthday Surprise!

Sunday was Slayton's 8th birthday. We decided a few weeks before that as a gift we would take him to his favorite place on Earth, FUN SPOT! We told him we were going furniture shopping to keep him off our trail. Well, when we finally pulled into the parking lot (it's a 2 1/2 hour drive), I said "look! It's the furniture store!". Slayton said 'woo hoo (in the most 'I'm bored' tone possible). So I asked him what the name of the store was and he said "Fun Spot", it took a few seconds to sink in, and he said 'FUN SPOT!!!!! YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!"

It's so fun to mess with the kids! Giggle!

Big purchase

So, we have bought our first piece of 'Adult' furniture...a sofa! Several years ago when my parents bought new living room furniture, they were nice enough to give us their old set. It was terrific for what we needed it for. It was great for when the kids were super little. Unfortunatley, the sofa has come to the end. The frame is broken and it is super uncomfy. So, we went shopping!

We looked high and low and found this gorgeous sofa. Unfortunately, I could not find a picture of the color we got...it is actually a lovely olive microfiber, but this is the sofa.

We get it tomorrow or Wednesday and I am super excited!

So, we are getting ready to go sofa shopping and Peale says to Kiki "Kira, what's the temperature outside?". To this Kiki plainly answers...

"Cold."

I love being a grown up!

So, today I had to run Slayton's skateboarding helmet into school so he had it for Winter Sports. As I was walking into the school, the ENTIRE sidewalk was a solid sheet of ice. I managed to fall and scrapped my knee all up (a perfect way to start the day!). So, I managed to get into the school without falling again and I headed right to the office. I walk in and the secretary and the principal are standing there. Here is the conversation that followed...

Me: I just fell outside. It is solid ice and there is not a drop of salt or sand out there.
Principal: Well, I worry about the adults, but kids bounce...
Me: KIDS BOUNCE!?! *I'm* worried about my kid! Someone needs to get out there NOW and salt!

WTH?!?! "Kids bounce"?!?! What kind of answer is that when I just fell?!? So, I called the Superintendent and complained. That is just ridiculous!

Slayton was most impressed that I yelled at the Principal and told his boss on him! LOL!

Cub Scouts

We have a Cub Scout in the house! After much begging and debate in the house, I finally agreed to let Slayton sign up. He was so proud to be all dressed up this morning as he got ready for the Chuck Wagon Derby. The den had a great time and they won a blue ribbon for their wagon.

I think this will be a great learning experience for the boys and Riley has already started asking when he can sign up!

Big News!!!

Kiki went poopy in the potty today! LOL! She went in the bathroom and I called to her and asked what she was doing. She say 'goin' poopy in ta pody!, Mama!'. Sure enough...I went in there and she was on the toilet and I heard a 'plop'! Hehehehe!

I am so proud of her. Not even 2 and a half and usin' the potty!

Family Fun Day!!

So, every-so-often, we have Family Fun Day. Just a day for all of us to go out and have a great time. Riley has been begging to go Bowling and Slayton wanted to go pick apples. I wanted to get some pumpkins (my all time favorite thing to do in the fall...). So, we headed to the orchard and picked a bushel of Honey Crisp apples and picked 3 small pumpkins. Peale and I picked up a bottle of Apple wine with Maple Syrup. YUMMY!

Then, we had lunch at Wendy's and headed over to the bowling alley. The kids had a great time.

Happy Birthday, Riley!!!

My middle baby turned 5 today! I can't believe it. Just yesterday I was waiting to meet him and now he is a big kid who loves robots and his Gameboy!

Daddy really worked hard to make Riley's birthday special. He made Riley's favorite dinner of spaghetti and meatballs and made a strawberry birthday cake from SCRATCH! I didn't know men could do that! LOL!

Can you tell Daddy doesn't have a lot of icing experience?! LOL! I think it is just gawgeous!

Slayton is famous!!

I went to the Close to my Heart website tonight and instantly recognized one of the photos on their main page...it was my 7 year old, Slayton! The picture was taken 2 years ago by my friend Bekki (who is a professional photographer). They must have lifted the picture from her site to use.

I'm sure they didn't ask for copyright rights, so I can't wait to her back from her...

So, we were driving down the road the other day and unfortunately, there was some roadkill along the way. It was a poor raccoon. So, Slayton says "Mom...is that an armadillo?!"

Now, this would probably not be funny...if we didn't live in Vermont!

I saved us $35!

So, this morning, Kira was picking her nose (more than usual!). So, I looked up there and there was something in there! I got a plastic fork and used a tine to get the POPCORN KERNEL out of there. Oy! All three of our kids have shoved stuff up their noses. Slayton shoved a pomegranate seed up there and Riley shovel in a pea. It must be genetic. So, with so much experience, I was able to get the kernel out without paying the ER fee! :)

Kid Funny #1:

I have an hour lunch break from work, so I come home sometimes. Riley was home sick the other day, so we were chatting.

Riley: Mama...why do you work?
Me: So we can have money to buy things.
Riley: I want to go to work.
Me: Well, what do you want to be when you grow up? You can be a policeman, doctor...
Riley: I want to be BATMAN!

Kid Funny #2:

Riley had a stomach ache and pretty much as soon as he was feeling better, Slayton started feeling ill.

Riley: Mama! I am feeling nuch better!
Slayton: Well, yeah, that because you gave the germs to me!

Kiki turns 2!

We had Kira's party on Sunday. It was an adorable Luau theme! I found the dress she is wearing at Target and then they added a bunch of Luau stuff to the Dollar Spot, so the theme was born!

We had coconut shrimp, fruit salad, watermelon, goldfish crackers, Tropical Punch Kool-Aid, and carrot cake with whipped cream cream cheese frosting...YUM!

Kiki got some more doll house furniture from Mom and Dad, an adorable baby doll from Grandma Louise, a puppy puzzle and stuffed puppy from Grandma Betsey and Grandpa Arthur, a TON of sweet summer clothes from Auntie Allie and Uncle Sean, and a girly pink dress, a purse, and a book from Grandma and Grandpa Briggs.

Now it's time to scrapbook the pictures!

Just a kid funny...

Last night Slayton and I were talking and somehow we got on the subject of who was the biggest in the house.

Sly: Daddy is the biggest person in the house.
Me: Well, actually I am bigger than Daddy.
Sly: True. You must eat a lot...of vegetables!
Me: Good thing you threw that 'vegetables' part in there!
Sly: Well, you always say I have to eat my veggies to be BIG and strong!

We are supposed to get our first big snowstorm of the year tonight! By the end of Wednesday, we are expecting 2 1/2 feet! Woo Hoo! I have an extra day to get the kids' Valentines ready for school! LOL!

I am SO excited!

Well, I just finished the first week of my diet and I lost 8.5 pounds!!!! Now, I know my weekly amount won't stay that high, but WOO HOO!!!! I'm gunna be a sexy Mama for Alice's wedding!

Mom: Why?
Riley: Her hands are cold!

Daddy: Who threw out their pizza after only 2 bites?!?
Slayton: Riley!
Daddy: Riley! You threw out your pizza after taking only 2 bites?!?
Riley: No!! I took 4 bites!

It's gonna be a LONG weekend!

We are stuck in the house because it is like 8 degrees outside and snowing. All 5 of us in our little house are going to get stir-crazy VERY quickly! Hmmm...maybe this will be a great time to do some scrapping! : )
